Upon arriving at Puyang Taoist Temple in Qichun, I was struck by its grandeur. This temple, originally built during the Song Dynasty, is located at Fuhu Mountain in Hedawan Village, Caohe Town. Its medical Taoist culture traces back to the renowned physician Sun Simiao from the Sui and Tang dynasties, boasting a history of over 1,400 years. Stepping inside, the striking red walls, intricate glazed decorations, and lush greenery create an atmosphere reminiscent of a primeval forest, while the profound Taoist cultural heritage makes the visit truly worthwhile.
Qichun is known as the hometown of mugwort, with Qiai being its most famous plant. It is also the birthplace of Li Shizhen, the great herbalist.
I also visited the Qichun Li Shizhen Chinese Herbal Medicine Market, where the world of mugwort unfolds before your eyes. The variety of moxa sticks is overwhelming—some with fine, tightly packed moxa wool, others with warm, soft hues. Picking one up and taking a whiff, the rich, mellow aroma of mugwort instantly fills your senses. It's no wonder this place is nationally renowned as the home of Qiai—it truly lives up to its reputation!
