A Detailed Guide to Jiuhua Mountain: Easily Explore This Holy Land


Jiuhua Mountain is one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China and the Bodhimanda of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. It is located in Qingyang County, Chizhou City, Anhui Province. With a profound Buddhist culture, 99 temples and more than 2,000 cultural relics and historic sites are scattered throughout the mountains. The natural scenery is precipitous and beautiful. The best time to visit is during the spring and fall (April–May, September–October), and you can also enjoy the snow in winter.

Transportation: You can fly to Chizhou Jiuhuashan Airport, or take the high-speed train to Chizhou Station, and then transfer to a bus. For self-driving, navigate to the visitor center. Take a bus in the scenic area to Jiuhua Street, and choose the Baisuigong, Tiantai, and Huatai cableways as needed.

Attractions: Jiuhua Street has core temples such as Huacheng Temple and the Hall of the Sacred Body. In the Tiantai scenic area, you can climb the peak to enjoy the scenery. The Huatai high-altitude plank road is amazing and magnificent. The Phoenix Pine in Minyuan and the nunnery complex are full of Zen.

Itinerary: A one-day tour allows you to quickly view Jiuhua Street and Tiantai. A two-day tour allows you to deeply experience the temples and natural scenery.

Accommodation: Jiuhua Street is convenient for worshiping Buddha. Julong Hotel and other hotels are of good quality, and B&Bs are cost-effective. Kecun at the foot of the mountain is affordable and suitable for self-driving.

Cuisine: Jiuhua vegetarian dishes, mountain delicacies, and Polygonatum cakes are worth a try. Foxiangzhai and other restaurants are popular.

Note: Observe religious etiquette and dress appropriately. Peak season tickets are CNY 160, and scenic transportation is CNY 50. Do not trust unofficial merit money, and drones and pets are prohibited. Self-driving applications to go up the mountain are accepted after 5pm, and you can avoid traffic control by leaving before 7am the next day. Plan ahead, and may you have a peaceful journey here!
