• A 5-minute walk to Yanxi Lake, where the lakeside boardwalk at dusk is very healing. Remember to bring bread to feed the fish (the koi are very plump).
• A 10-minute drive to Jiuhua Mountain Visitor Center, where shuttle buses go directly to the Tiantai Scenic Area.

• You can book a lakeside barbecue in the evening. The housekeeper will help start the fire, and the sparklers you bring make for magical photos.

• Large temperature difference in the mountains, bring a light jacket in April-May

The biggest surprise this time was the tranquility of staying overnight in the mountains—no car noise, only frog sounds, and when you turn off the lights, you can see the outline of the Milky Way.
