
Henan Normal University (abbreviated as HNU), located in Xinxiang City, Henan Province, is a key provincial university jointly established by the Henan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Selected for the "Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China," the "Excellent Teacher Training Program," the "Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program," the "111 Project," and the Ministry of Civil Affairs' Social Work Professional Training Base, it is a comprehensive normal university offering 11 major disciplines: philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, management, and the arts. In the 2019 China University Rankings compiled by Wu Shulian, HNU ranked 130th, and third in Henan Province.
The predecessor of Henan Normal University was Zhongzhou University founded in 1923 and Pingyuan Normal College founded in 1951. After the abolition of Pingyuan Province in 1952, the school went through the stages of Henan Normal College Second Branch, Henan Second Normal College, and Xinxiang Normal College. In 1985, it was renamed Henan Normal University.
As of September 2018, the university covers an area of 1,064,100 square meters, with a building area of 943,700 square meters. Its teaching and research equipment is valued at 612.6 million yuan, and its collections of Chinese, foreign, and electronic books total over 5 million volumes, along with over 6,000 journals. It offers 25 colleges, 83 undergraduate programs, 27 first-level master's degree programs, 7 second-level master's degree programs, 15 professional master's degree programs, 10 first-level doctoral degree programs, 1 professional doctoral degree program, and 4 postdoctoral research centers. The university has nearly 2,500 faculty members, including over 1,800 full-time teachers. The university has 28 first-level key disciplines designated as provincial key disciplines in Henan Province.
