Leisurely Strolling on Jiangxin Island to View the Beijiang River

The late autumn breeze is enchanting. I stand on the observation deck of Jiangxin Island in Qingcheng District, where the Beijiang River unfolds in its most graceful form. The river water is a clear jade green, as if dyed through by the grasses and trees on both banks, resembling a flowing emerald. It gently flows eastward along the terrain, with ripples shimmering on the surface. When sunlight falls, it breaks into a river full of golden brilliance. The river breeze carries a moist scent, mixed with the faint fragrance of reeds and aquatic plants, instantly washing away the fatigue of body and mind.

The riverside greenway on the north bank winds along the shore like a green ribbon. Camphor trees, banyans, and kapok trees create a patchy shade, their dense branches intertwining into a natural canopy. On the benches beneath the trees, elderly people rest with eyes closed, children chase and play, and cyclists ride through against the wind. Laughter and the sound of wheels blend into the river breeze. At the end of the greenway, several quaint pavilions can be faintly seen, contrasting with the scattered modern high-rises in the distance, sketching a cityscape where tradition and modernity merge.

The south bank is a continuous ecological wetland, with reed beds swaying in the wind. Occasionally, egrets spread their wings and skim the water surface, their sharp beaks lightly touching the water and creating ripples. On the river, a few fishing boats drift leisurely. The fishermen bending to cast their nets blend with the sky and water colors. When the nets are pulled in, the silver-scaled fish glisten, becoming the most vivid highlight of this scene. On the rocky beach by the island, clusters of unnamed wildflowers bloom freely—red, yellow, and purple—adding bright colors to the predominantly green landscape.

Leaning on the railing for a long time, watching the endless greenery on both banks and listening to the murmuring river, the serene beauty of Jiangxin Island and the lively spirit of the Beijiang River intertwine into poetry, intoxicating one in this natural gift of comfort.
