Mount Kinabalu, or Kinabalu Mountain, is one of Malaysia’s most iconic natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage site. I recently embarked on a one-day adventure here, and wow, no wonder it’s called Malaysia’s little Switzerland!
Getting There
Public Transport: You can catch a big bus from Kota Kinabalu city (about 2 hours) to Kinabalu Park for roughly 10 MYR one way. But heads up — the bus only gets you to the park entrance, not other amazing spots nearby.
Private Car/Driver: I recommend renting a private car or hiring a driver for about 400 MYR a day. This gives you flexibility and the chance to visit highlights like the Kinabalu Park, the quaint Cow Farm, the soothing Poring Hot Springs, and the spectacular Rafflesia (the world’s biggest flower)! Just arrange your route with the driver a day before.
Self-Drive: If you’re confident driving, renting a car in Kota Kinabalu for about 140 MYR/day is a great way to explore at your own pace. Just be sure to watch the local road conditions and traffic rules!
Whether you’re hiking, soaking in natural hot springs, or marveling at the rare flora, Kinabalu offers a perfect blend of thrill, nature, and culture. If you’re a nature lover, this place will steal your heart! 💚🏞️
