Good places to go in March | Acropolis of Rhodes: a historical witness of ancient Greek civilization

#MarchGoodPlaces2025

The Acropolis of Rhodes is located on the Greek island of Rhodes. It is an ancient Greek acropolis with a long history, built between the 5th and 3rd centuries BC. It is located in Smith Mountain Park, the highest point in Rhodes City, only 3 kilometers away from the city center. Although it is some distance from the old city of Rhodes, it was once a major trading center for the Greeks and Phoenicians founded by the Dorians around the 10th century BC, and its geographical location is very strategic.

The most striking feature of the Acropolis is the magnificent Temple of Athena Lindia, which fell into ruins in the early Middle Ages. Italian archaeological authorities conducted excavations here between 1912 and 1945. After World War II, Greece took over the archaeological excavation and restoration work, allowing the Acropolis of Rhodes to be partially rebuilt, including ancient monuments such as the Temple of Apollo, the stadium and the theater. It has now become an important destination for tourists to explore ancient Greek civilization.
