Finn Slough (pronounced “slew”) is a small, historic fishing-community on the Fraser River in Richmond, British Columbia.
Finn Slough was established in the 1880s by Finnish settlers. Fishing was the main livelihood.
Many of the houses are built on pilings or are floating houses. Some structures date from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.
The community has always been somewhat remote and semi-independent. Originally, many services/infrastructure were limited.
It has been photographed a lot and appears in postcards and local art (partly because of its rustic, picturesque character).
