Rome Travel Recommendation: The Colosseum

📍Rome Travel Recommendation: The Colosseum

Meeting the Colosseum for the first time, which I had only seen through TV, videos, or books, was an incredibly striking experience.

This massive amphitheater, completed around 72–80 AD, could accommodate as many as 50,000 spectators and was the largest of its kind in the Roman Empire.

It was a venue not only for animal hunting shows but also for gladiator battles and even public executions, making it a truly fearsome place.

Stepping inside the Colosseum, which I had previously seen in movies, was even more amazing. The structure features a highly complex architectural system and a multi-layered design.

The seating was arranged in a tiered fashion, with the upper levels reserved exclusively for nobles and the upper class. Seeing this place reminded me of the movie 'Gladiator.' Knowing that gladiators had to fight to the death was both chilling and terrifying.
