Prasat Narai Cheng Weng, Sakon Nakhon Province
🙏It is an ancient site from the Khmer and Bapuan periods, built of sandstone on a laterite base. It stands out with a single prang, called “Narai Kha Yao” because the doors and arches are tall and long in the style of Khmer art from the 16th–17th Buddhist centuries. There are stone carvings of Vaishnava fairy tales, such as Narayana reclining on the ocean and Krishna subduing the lion, on the lintel and window arches.
🙏There is a legend that when Phra Maha Kassapa brought the breastbone relics from India, Phraya Suwanna Phingkhan intended to ask for a share of the relics to enshrine them for the country. Therefore, he prepared to build a tunnel to enshrine the relics in advance. Therefore, there was a competition to seize the breastbone relics. The men of Nong Harn Noi built Prasat Phu Pek, competing with the women of Nong Harn Luang who built Prasat Narai Cheng Weng to wait for Maha Kassapa. Both sides held the rule that if the pentacle (Venus) rose, they would stop construction and immediately put down their tools, and then find the winner. However, the women used a trick by lighting a lantern and hanging it on a high peak at night, which made the men misunderstand that the pentacle had risen, so they stopped construction. The women continued construction until it was finished just before dawn and they were the winners.
