The Pegasus Fountain Scene Was a Dramatic Climax"
The spectacle at the Pegasus Fountain was the dramatic high point of the evening. The water jets were rigged with colored lights and theatrical smoke, making the fountain appear to bubble with a sickly, unnatural life. A main performer, playing a doomed Countess, appeared on the central staircase in a soaking wet, crimson gown, giving a silent, pantomimed performance of drowning and despair. The sound of amplified, distorted opera music echoing off the surrounding stonework was overwhelming. The sheer scale and theatricality of this scene, using the fountain as both stage and prop, was nothing short of brilliant and provided a truly beautiful, yet deeply unsettling, focal point for the haunting.
