🏘 Wat Klang Worawihan was elevated to the status of a second-class royal temple in 1916 by King Rama VI.
🏕It was established around 1756. It is said that during land clearing, an ancient gold ring was discovered under a tamarind tree, thus the temple was named Wat Tako Thong.
🏡After the fall of Ayutthaya, the temple was abandoned. Until the Thonburi period, renovations began. New Buddha images were cast and new monks' quarters were built. The old, crumbling ubosot was demolished and rebuilt, doubling its size. Construction began around 1802.
Highlights of the temple include:
🏚The old ubosot, built in 1802, is in the style of King Rama III. Inside, a principal Buddha image of laterite covered in plaster and gilded in the Mara-Vijaya posture was enshrined. It was brought from an abandoned temple in the middle of the forest in Chonburi. The murals depict the life of the Buddha.
🏠 The new Ubosot (ordination hall) is a Thai-style building enshrining the Phra Phuttha Samut Mongkhon, a Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture. King Rama X, while holding the title of Crown Prince, came to cast the Phra Phuttha Samut Mongkhon's hair, enshrining the Buddha's relics brought from Sri Lanka.
🏕 The Vihara houses statues of former abbots, from the first to the eleventh.
🛕 The Mondop houses four Buddha footprints.
🏘 The Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Clock Tower, Phra Prang, Phra Phuttha Chedi, and Phra Dhamma Chedi.
