Exploring Sapporo’s best autumn gems was an absolute dream—think vibrant leaves, soothing onsens, and lakeside chill spots 🍁✨ This trip is for anyone craving peaceful vibes and unreal fall color without battling tourist swarms!
Top Spots to Visit in Sapporo:
1. Jozankei Onsen (3 Chome Jozankeionsenhigashi, Minami Ward): Open all day, year-round. A hot springs oasis surrounded by fiery autumn leaves! Arrive early, and be sure to check bus schedules—the hour-long ride from central Sapporo fills up fast, especially in peak leaf season. Miss the first few spots and you might be standing the whole way!
2. Nakajima Park (1 Nakajimakoen, Chuo Ward): Open all day, year-round. Chill out by the lake, snap photos of golden ginko trees, and watch locals enjoy the crisp air with coffee and dog walks. Perfect for a morning jog or afternoon picnic!
3. Hōheikyō Dam (840 Jōzankei, Minami Ward): The panoramic views here are next-level, especially with the autumn forest next to the reservoir. Come back early at the bus station at the carpark to catch the return bus. I was too engaged in the scenery and missed the bus as I had to queue and waited for 3 electric shuttle buses at the dam to get back to the carpark. I ended up with a 1-hour walk back to the town area but it was one of the best scenery I had.
Sapporo Hacks & Food:
Getting around is easy—grab your IC card to breeze through public transport and check google map for bus times. For food, hunt down a bowl of miso butter ramen or curries at local izakayas near the parks and onsen. Don’t forget comfy sneakers for all the walking, and layer up—it gets chilly after sundown!
Pro Tip: Sapporo in late October = top-tier fall colors + minimal crowds. Just check bus schedules the night before and bring snacks for scenic picnics.
