Monaka on the slope

I went to Sakanoue Monaka, a shop selling beautiful monaka wafers located right at the top of a hill in Jozankei Onsen town.

You can enjoy freshly baked monaka wafers either by eating in or taking them out. There was also a plan to eat them in the lounge in the back with a free drink, so I chose that and relaxed.

When I think of monaka wafers, I imagine a simple, somewhat plain treat, but they were actually a stylish treat that was easy to eat, like a cake sandwiched between two pieces of monaka wafers.

I went there after noon, and there was only one type left, so I felt a little disappointed. Next time I'll go earlier.

If you're staying at a ryokan in your group, they apparently can reserve them for you, so be sure to get them efficiently!
