Famous Cherry Blossom Spot: Kakunodate

Among Japan's renowned cherry blossom spots, Kakunodate stands out as a popular destination. The town retains its old streets and samurai residences, with its famous weeping cherry trees adorning the area. The contrast between the black walls of the samurai houses and the pink blossoms of the weeping cherry trees is stunning, creating a tunnel-like effect of cherry blossoms. The cherry blossom season in the Tohoku region lasts from mid-April to early May. In summer, the lush green leaves are beautiful, in autumn the vibrant foliage, and in winter the snow-covered cherry trees offer a picturesque view. If you're lucky, you might even encounter an Akita dog. Must-try local dishes include Kiritanpo hot pot, Hinai chicken, Inaniwa udon, and coffee zenzai.
