Strolling through the old streets of Tohoku's Little Kyoto
Kakunodate in Akita Prefecture is also known as the "Little Kyoto of the Northeast" and is famous for its samurai residences with traditional buildings. It was formed in the early 17th century as a samurai city, and its historical relics are still preserved after a hundred years of ups and downs. In spring, weeping cherry blossoms are in full bloom. In summer, the area is shaded by green trees and full of greenery, attracting many tourists.
