Osaka to Tohoku Cherry Blossom Viewing Guide: Tsutsujigaoka Park

Tsutsujigaoka Park was selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Urban Parks in 1989 (Heisei Year 1). It is widely recognized as a representative urban park of Sendai and a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in the 'City of Trees.' The park spans an area of 11.2 hectares, equivalent to about 2.4 Tokyo Domes. The surrounding area was once developed as a horse-riding ground and other facilities, with over a thousand weeping cherry trees transported from Kyoto and planted here. It was opened to the public as a cherry blossom horse-riding ground, becoming a popular cherry blossom destination that attracts many visitors. In addition to the common Somei Yoshino cherry trees, the park also features rare varieties such as Ukon cherry trees.
