Miyagi Gokoku Shrine in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture

Miyagi Gokoku Shrine in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, was established in 1904 at the site of the main keep of Aoba Castle, following the wishes of Emperor Meiji. The shrine honors over 56,000 spirits who sacrificed their lives to protect their beloved country, homeland, and loved ones during numerous conflicts and wars, including the unprecedented national crisis of the Greater East Asia War. In 2004, the shrine celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Located at the site of Sendai Castle's main keep, the shrine is bustling with visitors during events such as New Year's visits and Shichi-Go-San celebrations.

Next to the shrine, there is a souvenir shop where traditional Tanabata decorations made of Japanese paper and adorned on green bamboo stand out.
