Bird Island Xinyuan Bridge and Haenyeo Statue

#SeptemberBestPlaces2025
Jeju Island's Saeyeongyo Bridge, with its modern and unique design, is a popular photo spot. Designed like a sailing ship, the bridge, against the backdrop of the blue sky and white clouds and the surrounding seascape, creates a truly spectacular view. Walking up the bridge offers breathtaking views of the magnificent coastline and distant islands, creating a breathtaking and inspiring experience. Our brief tour and photo ops took about 20 minutes. The walk here is short but well worth the scenery, making it a great option for those looking for a quick photo opportunity or a seascape. If you have more time, we recommend a leisurely evening walk to enjoy the sea breeze and the tranquility of Jeju's nightscape.

At the entrance to Seogwipo Port on the bridge stands the Haenyeo statue. Jeju Haenyeo are traditional female divers from Jeju Island, South Korea. They gather abalone, kelp, and other seafood from the sea without breathing apparatus, holding their breath. They are a key symbol of Jeju's semi-matriarchal society and maritime culture. Their work has been designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, and a carving commemorates them.
