Gentle Monster Seongsu Headquarters (HAUS NOWHERE Seoul / i.i.combound New Headquarters)
Walking from Seongsu Station, I came across a building that stood out even from afar. The gray concrete exterior, layered in layers, resembled a Brutalist sculpture. Stepping through the glass doors, I felt more like I was entering an exhibition hall than a commercial space.
The first thing I did was head down to the basement floor, where I found Nudake. Uniquely shaped pastries and desserts were laid out like works of art. The moment I saw them, I thought, "This isn't something to eat, it's something to appreciate." Sitting down and people-watching, I realized it wasn't just a cafe; it felt more like a stage created by the brand.
The first floor, befitting Gentle Monster's main showroom, truly showcased the brand. Sunglasses and eyewear were displayed like exhibits, and the lighting was designed to subtly highlight the products. The staff, all dressed in black, greeted customers, a sight that felt like a performance in itself.
Climbing up to the mezzanine level, another world unfolds. Each floor has a completely different concept, with one floor filled with cyberpunk-inspired installations, another focused on lighting and sculptures. Besides Gentle Monster, there are also spaces for other brands like Tamburins and Atiisu, so it felt like seeing a new exhibition every time. It's perfect for taking your time and leisurely strolling through the space.
Upper levels have a more office-like feel, but the scattered objects and exhibits still make for a fun experience. Some floors are also open for pop-up or special exhibitions, so depending on when you visit, you can experience something different.
Finally, the rooftop offers a breathtaking view. The panoramic views of Seongsu's industrial district and the Seoul skyline complement the concrete architecture perfectly. Many people were snapping Instagram photos, and I found myself wanting to sit down and soak in the atmosphere.
For me, Gentle Monster's Seongsu headquarters was more than just a place to shop. The phrase "a place where you assemble your senses" perfectly fits the experience. More than the products themselves, I was drawn to the details within the space—the lighting, the sounds, the objects—and left with a lingering feeling, as if I'd seen an exhibition. It's a space that blends in strangely with other cafes and shops in Seongsu, yet has its own bold language. If you're ever in Seongsu, I highly recommend experiencing it.✨
