[Seoul, Korea] Sushi Sora, popular among Koreans

#0yentravelnovember

A story about seaweed. I had sushi near Myeongdong.
The counter at Sushi Sora was already full of Korean customers, even though it was lunchtime on a weekday.

The father of the family next to us, who had come to celebrate his daughter's birth, seemed to like the way they mixed the sawara donburi (a bowl of rice topped with sawara fish) with a spoon and wrapped it in seaweed. The seaweed is different! It's delicious, he said, and happily asked for seconds. The craftsman also said that this is Japanese seaweed.

Japanese seaweed and Korean seaweed look similar, but they have completely different tastes and textures. The raw material for Korean seaweed is what is known in Japan as rock seaweed, and the big difference is that it is seasoned with sesame oil and salt.

I wanted to tell the father, who was munching away at it, that it was the taste of my country.
