When I went to Seoul last spring, I specially arranged a day to go to Namsan Tower (N Seoul Tower) to see the cherry blossoms. Originally I just wanted to take a look, but the scenery was more beautiful than I expected, especially the sunset + night view + cherry blossoms, it was really worth it. This time I want to sort out my own experience and give some reference to those who are planning to go.
How to get up the mountain?
I looked up several ways to get up the mountain, and finally decided to walk up and take the cable car down. I felt that this way would be more experiential and not too tiring.
Walk up the mountain (suitable for those who take pictures slowly)
I started from Namsan Park Entrance. The road was really full of cherry blossoms, just like a scene from a Japanese drama. Although it is a bit steep, the scenery along the way is so beautiful that I didn't feel tired while walking. This method is especially recommended because the light in the morning is just right and the photos are beyond the scope of this article.
Cable car up the mountain (suitable for those in a hurry)
If you don’t want to walk, you can take the cable car directly up. You can find it by searching for “Nanshan Cable Car” on the map. However, my friend chose this method and waited in line for almost half an hour. Be mentally prepared if you go during the peak season.
📍 Operating hours: 10:00~23:00
💰 Cost: About HKD 80 round trip
Taking the bus up the mountain (a lesser known method)
Actually, there are buses available, but I didn’t try it at the time. Later I found out that I could take route 01A or 01B up the mountain from Namsan Library or Namsan Baekbeom Square. This method has fewer people and is suitable for people who don’t want to queue but don’t want to walk too much.
Best time & location for taking photos
I went up the mountain at around 3:00 p.m., just in time for sunset. The change from dusk to night view was super beautiful. It is recommended to arrive at around 4 or 5 pm so that you can take pictures of the cherry blossoms, the sunset, and the night view of the city after the lights are turned on.
📍 Best shooting spots:
•Observation deck next to the cable car station: The angle here is just right, and you can take pictures of the sky full of pink cherry blossoms and the city skyline in the distance.
•The path at the foot of Nanshan Tower: There are many cherry trees here and relatively few people, making it suitable for taking portraits.
• View the night view from the top of the mountain: If you climb the tower, you will be a little higher, but in fact, if you don’t climb the tower, you can see the super beautiful night view from the square on the top of the mountain, saving you the ticket money
