Haneul Park (하늘공원), which translates to “Sky Park,” is one of the five parks located within the World Cup Park complex in Mapo-gu, Seoul. It’s famous for its breathtaking panoramic views of the city, sprawling fields of silver grass, and vibrant seasonal flowers. Built atop a former landfill site, Haneul Park stands today as a shining example of ecological transformation and sustainable urban design.
Situated on a hill, the park requires visitors to climb about 290 steps or take a shuttle bus to reach the summit. The climb is rewarded with sweeping views of the Han River, Bukhansan Mountain, and even Namsan Tower on clear days. The park is most renowned for its picturesque landscape in autumn, when vast fields of Eulalia (silver grass) sway in the breeze and golden light floods the hilltop during sunset.
Each season brings a different charm: spring’s canola flowers and cherry blossoms, summer’s lush green plains, autumn’s iconic silver grass, and winter’s quiet snowscapes. Eco-conscious travelers will appreciate the park’s solar-powered lights and wind-powered energy systems, reflecting Seoul’s commitment to sustainability.
Haneul Park is also a hotspot for photographers and influencers, particularly during the annual Seoul Eulalia Festival held in October. The well-maintained paths, art installations, and natural surroundings make it an ideal place for a leisurely walk, date, or picnic above the city.
