🧭 Preparation Tips
Traveling to high altitudes requires thorough preparation to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.
Altitude Sickness Prevention:
Seda’s average altitude is over 4,000 meters. Start taking Rhodiola supplements 7 days before your trip. Avoid bathing on the first day of arrival. Carry oxygen bottles (available at Seda pharmacies for about 25 RMB per can).
Clothing:
The temperature difference between day and night is significant. Bring windproof and warm clothing, such as a down jacket and thermal underwear, regardless of the season. In winter (-10°C to 5°C), extra warmth is essential.
Respect Local Customs:
Smoking and loud noises are prohibited in the Buddhist Academy.
Ask for permission before photographing monks.
Remove hats when entering temples.
Avoid wearing shorts or skirts.
🍜 Local Food Recommendations
While in Seda, try these authentic Tibetan dishes:
Yak Meat:
Served with chili powder, a local specialty.
Tsampa:
A staple food of the Tibetan people, often paired with butter tea.
Butter Tea:
Rich in Tibetan flavor, it warms the stomach and boosts energy. Available at roadside tea houses for about 1 RMB per cup.
Tibetan Hot Pot:
Especially with yak meat broth, offered in many local restaurants.
💎 Important Reminders
Transportation:
Seda is relatively remote. Self-driving offers flexibility, but high-altitude road conditions can be challenging. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, carry enough fuel and food, and drive safely. Alternatively, take a long-distance bus from Chengdu’s Chadianzi Bus Station. The journey takes about 10-14 hours.
Accommodation:
Book your stay in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, to secure suitable lodging.
Environmental Protection and Respect:
Protect the environment and respect local religious beliefs and customs. When visiting the sky burial site, maintain silence and refrain from taking photos or videos.
We hope this guide helps you plan your Seda trip and allows you to experience the awe and inspiration of this land of faith.
