The "Little White House" in Shanghai: Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts

After visiting the Symphony Music Museum, I wandered to the Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts, an open museum that does not require an appointment. It is known as the "Little White House" in Shanghai, also called the Little White Building.

This little white building was built in 1905 and is a classic example of French late Renaissance architecture. Since 1960, the Shanghai Institute of Arts and Crafts has moved here and has been used ever since.

Inside the museum is a large lawn garden, and the building is a three-story marble building. The hall entered along the garden stairs is the second floor main exhibition hall. In this museum, you can see collections of exquisite crafts such as root carvings, jade carvings, ivory carvings, and cloisonne.

Among them, the ivory work carved on the spider silk in the fifth episode of Dream of the Red Chamber left a deep impression on me. Basically, you can see everything related to arts and crafts here, and there are many existing masterpieces that are amazing.

The third and first floors are various types of studios that are also open to the public. If you are interested, you can also go to see the live jade carving or colored lantern crafts, which are very interesting.

The museum is very niche and not many people visit it. Friends who are interested can go and see. You can take pictures with a camera except in certain areas or places or collections with specific signs.
