At No. 79 Fenyang Road, Xuhui District, there is a garden house called "Little White House on the Sea", which was once the residence of the general manager of the French Concession Municipal Council.
The "Little White House" was built in 1905. It is a French late Renaissance-style architectural garden with an area of 1,496 square meters. It absorbs the form of Western classical architecture and has a strong Baroque style.
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the World Health Organization of the United Nations had its office here; in 1972, the Institute of Arts and Crafts moved back here. In 2002, it was converted into the Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts and opened to the public.
There are three floors in total. The underground floor houses many traditional arts and crafts works such as dough modeling and paper cutting.
Various white elephant sculptures are currently on display on the first floor.
The second floor is a traditional craft studio, which exhibits intangible cultural heritage such as embroidery.
