🌈 Exhibition Theme
The exhibition title "Me Without Me" comes from Shen Fan’s confession, directly pointing to the core of his creation—practicing a form of expression that sheds the "self" relied upon by traditional expressionism, reaching a "selfless" state of innocent and pure spirit by stripping away painting techniques.
☀️ Exhibition Content
The exhibition is divided into two parts: "Color" and "Origins," systematically reviewing Shen Fan’s over forty years of artistic practice in experimenting with and breaking through the language of abstract painting.
🎨 "Color" Section
✅ Creation Techniques: Shen Fan uses color and geometry as mediums, employing techniques such as palette knife scraping, canvas perforation, and paint infiltration, abandoning the painter’s subjective brushstrokes to condense natural and spiritual landscapes into pure visual language.
✅ Work Characteristics: These works are called "Paintings After I Lost Myself," evolving from the artist’s usual primary colors to a playful use of diverse colors, inspired both by capturing fleeting sensations and reflecting on the "common sense" of form.
✅ Work Display: Most works are exhibited publicly for the first time, fully presenting the artist’s continuous exploration on canvas over the past decade.
👩🎨 "Origins" Section
✅ Creative Journey: Tracing back to Shen Fan’s experimental creations since the late 1980s, using techniques like cartographic lines and rubbings that detach personal touch, gradually dissolving the "self’s clamor" in series such as "Village" and "Landscape," constructing a minimalist, symbolic, and flat abstract language.
✅ Special Presentation: The exhibition specially presents design sketches and video documentation of the turning points in his creation, as well as a daily practice work titled "Walking," which took ten years to complete. "Walking" is a sculpture built from branches collected during daily walks over ten years, showcasing the artist’s profound reflection on daily practice.
