Shanghai's Most Gorgeous Temple: Jing'an Temple

Jing'an Temple, located in the heart of Shanghai's Jing'an District, is a temple you can visit while shopping. This temple has a history of nearly 1,800 years. It is also the most important esoteric Shingon Buddhist training center in China. Founded during the Three Kingdoms period, it is a temple with a very long history. The entire grounds are covered in gold, giving it a very luxurious appearance that is completely different from Japanese temples. Depending on the time of your visit, you may be able to hear the monks chanting sutras. Admission to enter here costs 50 yuan per person (as of June 2025). Payment is made by scanning a QR code at the entrance and paying online before entering. If you cannot connect to the internet, staff will assist you with cash payment.
