Guangzhou's City God Temple is located at the junction of Zhongshan 4th Road and Wende Road, close to Beijing Road Pedestrian Street. According to the introduction of the scenic spot, the City God Temple was built in the third year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1370) as an altar temple dedicated to the guardian god of the city. During the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, it was upgraded to the "Capital City God Temple" and was the largest City God Temple in South China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The existing City God Temple was rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty, and only the main hall and the worship pavilion remain.
