Shanghai | The Shanghai Natural History Museum: More than just a museum, it's a postmodern epic about the Earth!

#September2025

Huge! Super worth it! The Shanghai Natural History Museum is breathtakingly large, encompassing the entirety of history, from the Big Bang to the present day, across four or five floors. What's remarkable is that it presents rigid scientific knowledge with a high level of art and postmodern aesthetics.

A must-see for families! The museum's diverse and rich collection, from lifelike taxidermy specimens, dinosaurs, and fossils to interactive areas and a theater, boasts impeccable quality and quantity.

While some of the larger exhibits are replicas, the details are incredibly detailed, making them look just like the real thing! Highly recommended for families and children.

✓ Super practical tips (allow at least two hours!)
*Ticket tips: Book using the "Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Natural History Museum, and Planetarium Tickets" WeChat mini-program. The price is RMB 30 per person, with flexible times.
*Fast track for foreigners: Foreigners should go directly through the automated channels for faster passport verification and no waiting in line.
*Language support: Most exhibits have English explanations, but longer descriptions may only be in Chinese.
*Basic Services: Security check and lockers at the entrance. There's a cafe/restaurant, but it's often hard to find a seat on field trips!

✓ Warning (Beware!)
*Crowds: It's incredibly crowded! Just treat the elevator as if it doesn't exist; a 20-minute wait is common.
*Maintenance: The upstairs is new and great, but some areas downstairs are older, with broken interactive devices and faded text.
