Complete Night Tour Guide to Wangxian Valley, Jiangxi: Personally Tested to Be More Magical Than the Set of "Cang Lan Jue," These 3 Hidden Spots to Explore

Who would have thought! Last week I went to Wangxian Valley in Jiangxi, planning just to stroll around casually and then head back, but I was completely captivated by the cliff lights at night and ended up staying until the last bus departed. Looking back at the photos still makes my heart race!

When I entered the park at 5:30 PM, I was complaining about how hot the sun was in the mountains, until I reached the waterfall boardwalk and was instantly proven wrong. The sunset dyed the mist from the waterfall a golden pink, and when I casually raised my phone to shoot against the light, a small rainbow appeared in the frame. A girl traveling with me came over to take pictures together and even showed me how to include the warm yellow lights of the cliffside guesthouse in the shot. The glow mingling with the mist created an atmosphere that was simply perfect.

Walking up along the boardwalk, the White Crane Cliff viewing platform was definitely the highlight of the trip. I found a rock to sit on and watched the stilted buildings on the distant cliff bathed in the soft light of the setting sun. When the mountain breeze blew, even my hair seemed to shimmer. Nearby, an auntie was taking photos nonstop, murmuring, "This isn’t tourism, it’s like living inside a painting." I nodded enthusiastically in agreement and set that scene as my phone wallpaper. Every time I open it now, I relive that stunning moment.

As dusk deepened, it was time for the "blue hour" at the Moon Viewing Bridge. Thirty minutes after sunset, the sky turned a gentle light blue, and the bridge’s arch reflected in the stream like a full moon hanging in midair. While I was crouching by the stream to take photos, a guy behind me handed me a tissue, saying, "Be careful not to get your pants wet if you squat too long—I just stepped in water and soaked my shoes." After taking the photos, I headed straight to Flavor Street, where biting into a lantern-shaped rice cake revealed a delicious radish filling, and fried dough wrapped in glutinous rice balls was coated with soybean powder. Sharing these treats with new friends doubled the joy brought by carbs.

The liveliest event was the bonfire party at Yangfu Square. I squeezed to the front row 10 minutes early, and at 7:50 PM when the music started, everyone naturally formed a circle and bounced to the rhythm. At first, I was shy, but an auntie next to me grabbed my hand to sway together. The firelight illuminated everyone’s smiling faces, and even a socially anxious person like me sang loudly along. At that moment, all my fatigue vanished.

After the party, be sure to visit Chaohé Tower and the glass boardwalk. From the tower, you can see the entire valley’s lights like the Milky Way fallen to earth. I stood by the edge for a long time, not even hearing my friend calling me. I was initially scared walking on the glass boardwalk, gripping the railing tightly and not daring to move, but a guy behind me smiled and said, "Don’t be afraid. Look down and you see lights; look up and you see stars. How romantic." I tried looking up and really saw a sky full of stars. The lights below and the starry sky above blended beautifully—exciting and healing at the same time.

Finally, I slowly walked toward the exit along the Thunderwood Bridge, soothed by the sound of the babbling stream. Walking on the stone bridge, I made plans with new friends to stay at the cliffside guesthouse next time, imagining lying in bed at night watching the lights—it just feels so happy.

A friendly reminder: be sure to wear comfortable sneakers. I walked for over an hour, and my friend wearing canvas shoes complained about sore feet. It gets a bit chilly in the mountains at night, so the thin jacket I brought came in handy. If you’re sensitive to cold, bring an extra layer. Also, if you want to return to the city, the last bus leaves at 9:30 PM. Don’t be like me, so caught up in taking photos that you almost miss the bus.

Friends, don’t just visit Wangxian Valley during the day! The ancient cliff village at night has the romance of a fantasy drama and the warmth of everyday life. When you go, be sure to wait for a rainbow at the waterfall boardwalk and hold a stranger’s hand to dance at the bonfire party. You’ll definitely feel the same way I did—leaving with a heart full of reluctance. For those who have already been, come share your favorite spots in the comments.
