We arrived at Zhenbeitai in the late afternoon, just as the wind picked up over the vast loess plateau. From a distance, the tower looked modest, but as we got closer, its scale and historical weight began to reveal themselves. We felt the dry breeze against our skin and the silence that stretched across the plains. At the top, the view was wide and bare a horizon that felt endless, broken only by the faint lines of distant hills. Standing there, it was easy to imagine how this tower once guarded the Great Wall, watching over the north with vigilance and solitude. The stillness of the place stayed with us long after we left, like a quiet memory of strength and endurance.
