Traveling to Shaoxing, China: A Culinary Adventure

🇨🇳 Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China
🦞 Xuyi Cheng's Lobster (Golden Era Branch)

If you're traveling to China in May or June, you absolutely must try crayfish, known locally as "xiaolongxia" (小龙虾). During the peak season at the end of May, I visited Shaoxing in Zhejiang Province and headed to the renowned restaurant Xuyi Cheng's Lobster (Golden Era Branch) to indulge in this delicacy.

I ordered garlic-flavored crayfish (蒜蓉龙虾), three skewers of pork belly, fried rice cakes, and leek skewers. The crayfish, infused with the sharp taste of garlic, was incredibly flavorful, and the plump, seasonal crayfish meat made it impossible to stop eating. Although I dined alone, the restaurant allows you to order a minimum of two jin (approximately 1 kilogram). Initially, I thought I might not finish it all, but the taste was so irresistible that I ended up eating everything. The skewers I ordered complemented the crayfish perfectly, adding variety to the meal.

Dining outdoors in the pleasant evening breeze of May added a romantic touch to the experience. At one point, I looked up to see a pink-hued sky, which prompted me to take a short stroll to admire the view.

While peeling crayfish can be a bit labor-intensive, the taste makes it entirely worthwhile. If you're traveling to China during this season, make sure to visit a xiaolongxia restaurant! If you're in Shaoxing, Xuyi Cheng's Lobster (Golden Era Branch) is the place to go! ♥️🇨🇳
