Located in Longhua District, Shenzhen, Guanlan Ancient Market is one of Shenzhen's "four famous markets." It's also the only fully preserved market street from the late Qing and early Republican periods, earning it the reputation of "Shenzhen's first street of modern folk culture."
Transportation Guide:
• Subway: Take Line 4 to Guanlan Station, Exit B. The market is about a 6-minute walk from the station.
• Bus: Several bus routes serve the area, including 627, M258, and M287. Check specific routes on a map app before your trip.
• Car: Navigate to "Guanlan Ancient Market Parking Lot." Parking is free, and a free shuttle bus runs from the parking lot to the market entrance.
Suggested Itinerary:
• Morning: Enter through the South Gate and admire the ancient watchtowers and arcade buildings. Stroll along the old streets, soaking in the historical atmosphere. Don't forget to take photos with the cheongsam-clad beauties against the green brick walls and the traditionally dressed figures against the cement walls.
• Lunch: Enjoy local specialties within the market, such as Guanlan dog meat and Hakka stuffed tofu.
• Afternoon: Visit Guanlan Ancient Temple for a moment of tranquility, then head to Guanlan Red Mansion to learn about its history. Afterward, explore cultural venues like the Wan Ding Art Museum and Dejian Bookstore within the market.
• Evening: Watch the light show, which features ancient landscapes, mythological stories, and animations projected onto the walls of the old buildings. The show typically runs from around 8:30 pm to 8:40 pm (subject to change during holidays). Afterward, enjoy the night view of the market.
Tips for Your Visit:
The market is not large, and you can explore it in about 2 hours. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Many photography studios in the market rent Hanfu and Miao costumes for photos. It's best to take photos in the morning, as the number of visitors increases after 11 am.
