A hidden fairyland in the heart of Shenzhen! A one-day slow life guide to Litchi Park
Who says the city is only about skyscrapers? Nestled in the embrace of Shenzhen’s CBD lies a poetic haven—Litchi Park. This October, I want to spend a whole day idling here.
Enter the park at 7 a.m., with morning light shimmering on the artificial lake, light mist floating, and egrets skimming the water. Jog or cycle along the lakeside trail, with swaying coconut trees and blooming bougainvillea on both sides, a gentle breeze brushing your face—instantly escaping the urban hustle.
At 9 a.m., find a patch of lawn under a big banyan tree, spread out a picnic mat, and open your homemade sandwiches and cold brew coffee for a “pretend forest” brunch accompanied by birdsong. Children chase bubbles, couples take photos, elders practice Tai Chi—the feeling of relaxed life takes shape here.
At noon, walk to the park’s north gate and dive into Tongxinling Old Street for a bowl of authentic wonton noodles, springy bamboo noodles paired with golden wontons, topped with a spoonful of chili oil—full of local flavor.
In the afternoon, rent a pedal boat to drift on the lake, watching kapok and litchi trees intertwine along the shore, with occasional little fish leaping out of the water. After docking, step into the small birdwatching hut, where binoculars reveal the secrets of red-eared bulbuls and dark green white-eyes.
At dusk, climb the Nine-Bend Bridge, where the sunset glow dyes the horizon red, the musical fountain dances to the rhythm, and children laugh and run around. Sitting on a bench at this moment, eating a seasonal late-ripening litchi, its sweet juice bursts forth, filling your mouth with happiness.
There’s no admission fee here, yet it holds Shenzhen’s softest side. After a day, no rushing—just savoring life.
