Kochi Prefecture: Shimanto's Autumn Foliage Spot - Kuroson Gorge

Kuroson River, a tributary of the Shimanto River in Shimanto City (formerly Nishitosa Village), Kochi Prefecture, is a popular spot for autumn foliage among locals. During the season, many visitors come from both within and outside the prefecture.

The most popular area is around the Shinden Bridge. Here, you can descend directly from the road to the riverbank, allowing you to see the crystal-clear river up close.

Visitors can enjoy the autumn leaves reflected on the river's surface, admire the flow of water over the weir through the foliage, take photos, have a picnic, and spend their time as they please.

Every year, during the peak season for autumn leaves, the "Shimanto Kuroson Village Festival" is held in Kuroson Gorge. (In 2025, it is scheduled to be held on November 15.)

Access to Kuroson Gorge is about 4.5 hours by car from Kochi City and about 2 hours by car from Shimanto City. Please exercise caution as there are narrow and low-visibility sections along the way.

There is no parking lot near Shinden Bridge, but a few cars can be parked along the roadside.
