Strolling along the Retro Willow-lined 'Perry Road' in Shizuoka Prefecture

Perry Road is located in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and is said to be the path that Commodore Perry, who led the Black Ships to Japan at the end of the Edo period, once walked. It is about a 10-minute walk from Izukyu-Shimoda Station. The path runs alongside the narrow Hiraname River, featuring beautiful willow trees and stone pavements. On both sides of the path, you can see Western-style houses from the Meiji and Taisho eras as well as old traditional Japanese houses, creating a retro atmosphere with a touch of foreign charm. The street is also lined with many antique shops and cafes, making it a popular tourist spot where visitors can leisurely stroll and enjoy the scenery.
