Exploring Shirakawa-go: A World Heritage Site!

Shirakawa-go, registered as a World Heritage site, is one of Japan's most famous heavy snowfall areas. Until recently, it was considered a hidden gem of Japan due to its harsh climate and environment. For four long months, the residents of this region endure heavy snowfall while living in traditional gassho-zukuri houses.

While it is a popular spot visited by many tourists during the day, the limited-time winter night illuminations offer a magical scenery that cannot be seen during the day. This special event is eagerly anticipated by many every year. For more detailed information, please check the Shirakawa-go Tourism Association's website.

You can access Shirakawa-go by Nohi Bus from Kanazawa or Takayama. During the tourist season, it gets very crowded, so it is recommended to make reservations early.
