Shirakawa-go, an ancient village in the valley of Gifu Prefecture, is famous for its "Gassho-zukuri" style houses with high gable roofs resembling hands in prayer. It is registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is suitable for slow travel and absorbing the authentic Japanese atmosphere. 🍂

🪟 Go up to Shiroyama Viewpoint

Walk or take a shuttle bus to Shiroyama Viewpoint, a high-angle viewpoint overlooking the entire village in the middle of the valley. It is especially beautiful in winter when it is covered in snow. ❄️📸

🥢 Stop for lunch at Irori

A local restaurant that serves a set of traditional Japanese dishes such as Hida beef grilled on a charcoal stove, miso soup tofu, and homemade pickles. It will fill your stomach and heart. 🍲

🏠 Visit the ancient Wada House

A traditional gassho-style house that is open for visitors to see the ancient wooden structure, the attic, and the lifestyle of people in the past.

☕ Sip warm tea at a cafe in a straw house

There are many small cafes in ancient houses, serving green tea, Japanese sweets, and coffee. Sit and relax in the old house in a peaceful atmosphere. 🍵
