During the Spring and Autumn Period, there was a group of small states in present-day western Anhui, including Shu, Shuyong, Shuliao, Shujiao, Shulong, Shubao, and Shugong. They were located in present-day Shucheng, Feidong, Feixi, Lu'an, Chaohu, and Lujiang, in the Jianghuai region of central Anhui.
Since the 20th century, archaeological excavations have unearthed a number of Qunshu tombs in the area, dating back to the Spring and Autumn Period. These tombs reflect the cultural characteristics of the Qunshu region and the strong influence of Chu culture, and fully reflect the process of cultural exchange and integration during the Chu state's expansion into the Jianghuai region.
