📍Angkor Wat (អង្គរវត្ត)
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
The biggest highlight of sightseeing in Siem Reap is the Angkor ruins!
Among them, Angkor Wat is the temple that represents the ruins.
In fact, it was the first place to be registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site 🌍
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
It was originally built as a Hindu temple, but when the Angkor dynasty changed the state religion to Buddhism in the 16th century, it was renovated into a Theravada Buddhist temple.
It is still in use as an active temple and is an important place of prayer for local people.

▷Access
It is about 6km from the center of Siem Reap, a 15-minute drive. If you have enough energy, you can also visit by renting a bicycle 🚲
This time, I booked the "sunrise tour" online, so the tour guide came to pick me up in a van.
When you arrive outside the moat that surrounds Angkor Wat, you can enter on foot.
It is very spectacular to see the ruins gradually approaching as you cross the bridge!
▷Price
You will need the "Angkor Pass", a ticket that can be used for all Angkor ruins.
A one-day pass costs $37, a three-day pass $62, and a weekly pass $74. You can buy them online or at the ticket center east of central Siem Reap 🎫
▷Highlights
Times vary depending on the season, but if you visit early in the morning (around 5:30-6:30) you can see the sun rising from behind the ruins ☀️
The places where you can take pictures calmly fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early.
The interior of the temple is divided into three parts: the first corridor, the second corridor, and the third corridor.
First corridor▷
You can see murals depicting various scenes from the Hindu legends "Mahabharata" and "Ramayana".
Second corridor▷
There are Buddha statues placed there after it became a Buddhist temple, and graffiti by Japanese who visited here in the 17th century.
Third corridor▷
The highest point is where the "Central Shrine" is located. Once you climb the steep steps into the shrine, you'll be greeted by a spectacular view overlooking the entire Siem Reap area.
As this is a sacred place, you should wear modest clothing. Also, for safety reasons, the number of people allowed in may be limited.
▷Notes
On "Buddha's Feet Day," a Buddhist day in Cambodia, you may not be able to enter the Third Corridor.
There are 4-5 days a month when this is possible, and it varies from year to year, so we recommend that you check in advance and make plans!
