π Ta Prohm Temple, Siem Reap, Cambodia πΏπβ¨
According to local legends, the roots of the giant trees woven into the temple walls are not destruction but the βbreath of the godsβ π¬οΈπ³ that took the temple back. Locals believe that if you touch the roots of the kapok trees you can feel the strength of the ancestors and their protection.
I heard this after my visit and I completely agree. Walking through these ruins felt the opposite of decay. It felt alive and full of energy π« The atmosphere is simply breathtaking and ta prohm is a must visit.
I think many people have watched lara croft: tomb raider π¬ or at least heard of it. After that movie ta prohm became one of the most popular temples among tourists.
I went to the angkor complex mainly because of this temple and it did not disappoint. I was lucky to come in the evening π
There were almost no people, I could walk around peacefully, explore every corner and take photos πΈ
π My recommendation is to visit in the evening. Early morning is also possible but it is very crowded because everyone comes for the sunrise. In the evening it is calm and magical.
Ta prohm feels different from other temples. It stands deep in the jungle π΄ Built by king jayavarman vii in the 12th century for his mother, it later became a whole monastery city where thousands of people lived. Even though it has been abandoned since the 15th century and trees have grown through its walls, the temple still carries this living energy.
Today ta prohm is part of the unesco world heritage πποΈ
