The Peranakan culture in Katong, an area on the east side of Singapore, is adorable and highly recommended.

Peranakan refers to a new culture that is a mix of overseas Chinese (Arab, Indian, etc.).

The Katong area was so interesting that I made a special trip to the Peranakan Museum! You can see everything from Peranakan history to crafts in as little as 30 minutes to an hour.

This time I went around on my own, but I think it's best to go when there's a Japanese guide.
