Walkable Foodie Haven: Cafe Hopping in Tiong Bahru

#singaporeguide Tiong Bahru is quickly becoming one of Singapore’s most charming neighborhoods for food lovers and cafe enthusiasts alike. Its cozy streets and art deco architecture create the perfect backdrop for a relaxed day of exploring, and the area is wonderfully walkable — making it ideal for cafe hopping and discovering hidden gems around every corner.

On a recent visit, we checked out two standout spots that perfectly capture the neighborhood’s vibrant cafe culture: Hello Arigatou and Drips Bakery x Sakanoue Café.

At Hello Arigatou, we tried their signature tamago sando and the strawberry matcha cloud. The tamago sando was exactly what you hope for in a Japanese egg sandwich — soft, fluffy bread hugging a thick, creamy omelette that’s light, comforting, and deliciously seasoned. The strawberry matcha cloud was a dreamy drink topped with airy foam, balancing the fresh sweetness of strawberry with the earthiness of matcha in a refreshingly elegant way. It’s the kind of place where simple, well-executed flavors really shine.

A short stroll away, Drips Bakery’s collaboration with Japan’s Sakanoue Café brought us the limited-time Matcha Strawberry Field Kakigori — a beautiful and indulgent treat that felt like a little slice of Tokyo in Tiong Bahru. This kakigori featured ultra-fine shaved ice made from premium Kuramoto Ice, layered with juicy strawberries, topped with creamy matcha espuma, and drizzled with rich matcha sauce. Each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and flavors — light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced between fruity sweetness and matcha’s subtle bitterness.

Exploring these cafes is made even better by Tiong Bahru’s walkability and laid-back vibe. With plenty of cafes, boutique shops, and street art scattered throughout the neighborhood, it’s easy and enjoyable to wander from one spot to the next, soaking in the atmosphere while indulging in some of Singapore’s best artisanal bites.

Whether you’re after comforting Japanese sandwiches, beautifully crafted drinks, or delicate Japanese-inspired desserts, Tiong Bahru’s cafe scene has something to delight every palate — and the friendly, walkable streets make the experience all the more memorable.
