Old Hill Street Police Station is one of Singapore’s most colorful historic buildings and a super popular spot on Instagram. Built in 1934 in colonial style, it was originally Singapore’s first multi-story police dormitory and once the largest combined police station and dormitory in the country, witnessing the city’s transformation from colonial times to modernization. Today, it has been transformed into the office building for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, preserving its exterior while injecting new vitality.
The white walls paired with 927 colorful window frames shine brilliantly under the daytime sun, and at night the highlight takes center stage—the entire building lights up with rainbow colors, reflecting beautifully on the river across the street, breathtakingly beautiful. Whether standing on the opposite bank to capture the full view or getting close to capture the window frame details, you can take stunning photos.
When visiting, you can also stroll around nearby Clarke Quay to enjoy the riverside night view and delicious food, experiencing Singapore’s most charming urban atmosphere.
Tips:
1️⃣ Best time to shoot: After 6:30 PM when the rainbow lights turn on; bringing a tripod for night shots is recommended.
2️⃣ The nearest MRT station is Clarke Quay, about a 5-minute walk away.
3️⃣ To capture the entire building, stand on the Hill Street Bridge opposite.
4️⃣ If visiting during the day, the colorful windows under the sunlight also offer a unique artistic vibe.
