🌤️ A Day Trip from Hat Yai to Songkhla Old Town – A Journey Back in Time

Took a spontaneous day trip from Hat Yai to explore the charming streets of Songkhla Old Town, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my journey in southern Thailand. Just a short 30–40 minute drive from the city, this peaceful, heritage-rich town feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle.
We started our stroll through Nang Ngam Road, where century-old Chinese-style shophouses line the narrow lanes, each one with its own character and story. The mix of Sino-Portuguese architecture, colorful wall murals, and small hidden cafés made every corner worth stopping for. ☕🎨🏘️
I loved how quiet and slow-paced everything felt. Locals smiled warmly, cats lounged in the sun, and the scent of freshly made snacks drifted from the street stalls. We tried the famous red rice noodles, wandered into a few antique shops, and grabbed coffee at a cute little café tucked inside one of the old houses.
As the day went on, we made our way toward Songkhla Lake and ended the trip with a walk along Samila Beach, where the iconic golden mermaid statue sits watching over the sea. The sunset over the water was the perfect ending to a laid-back day. 🌅
If you're ever in Hat Yai and looking for a relaxing, culturally rich escape — Songkhla Old Town is a must. Go slow, eat local, and take it all in. ✨
