Sokcho [Yeonggeumjeong]

When you think of Sokcho, Yeonggeumjeong!
If you have ever been to Sokcho, you must have visited Yeonggeumjeong. It is such a well-known place!

Yeonggeumjeong is located inside Dongmyeong Port. Yeonggeumjeong is not actually a pavilion, but a mountain made of stone. In the past, when waves hit the rocks, a mysterious yulgok could be heard, as if a god was calling a fairy. The sound was similar to a geomungo, so the stone (rock) mountain was called Yeonggeumjeong.

However, during the Japanese colonial period, in order to develop Sokcho Port, the rock mountain was broken down and a port was built, so it changed into the wide rock shape it is today, and the mysterious yulgok of the past cannot be heard. 😢

However, it is still a place that many people visit! Although you cannot hear the beautiful sounds of the past, Yeonggeumjeong is still beautiful.
