If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would find it hard to believe that this shimmering valley, like a jade ribbon, truly exists. The Huanglong Scenic Area in Sichuan is one of the most magical natural wonders I've ever seen in my life—this is not a mythical paradise, but a real haven nestled among snow-capped mountains and lush forests.
📍【Huanglong Scenic Area】Overview
Located in Songpan County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, Huanglong is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and a national 5A-level tourist attraction. The area is named for its "colorful calcium carbonate landscapes," with Huanglong Main Valley as its centerpiece. The scenic area boasts thousands of colorful pools formed by calcium carbonate deposits, shimmering like golden scales. Viewed from above, it resembles a golden dragon coiled in the valley, hence the name "Huanglong" (Yellow Dragon).
🏞 Must-See Highlights:
🌈 Five-Color Pool
One of Huanglong's most famous attractions, these natural pools feature interwoven shades of blue, green, yellow, and orange, resembling a spilled palette. It's highly recommended to hike to the upper observation deck for a panoramic view of the pool clusters—so stunning you'll be reluctant to blink.
🌲 Welcome Pool & Fairyland
Not far from the entrance, you'll find the Welcome Pool, the first encounter many travelers have with Huanglong. The path is shaded by dense trees, accompanied by babbling streams. The air carries a mix of moss, pinewood, and snowmelt scents, instantly putting you at ease.
🕍 Huanglong Temple
Situated in the upper section of the main valley, this Tibetan Buddhist temple blends harmoniously with its natural surroundings, as if conversing with the heavens and earth. Reaching this spot offers not only breathtaking views but also a sense of pilgrimage.
❄️ Snow Mountain Peak View
On clear days, you can catch a distant view of the snow-covered Xuebaoding Peak, the main peak of the Min Mountains and a sacred mountain for the Tibetan people. The interplay of white snow and Huanglong's colorful pools creates a striking contrast of hues and spirituality.
