If you’re planning a once-in-a-lifetime nature getaway in China, this Huanglong + Jiuzhaigou combo is hard to beat. Both sites are UNESCO World Heritage gems in Sichuan — and summer is a fantastic time to visit (if you prepare right!).

📍Day 1: Huanglong Scenic Area (黄龙景区)

Famous for its terraced calcified pools, Huanglong feels like walking through a magical world of turquoise and gold. The hike up to the Five-Color Pond (五彩池) is scenic but not for the faint-hearted — it starts at 3,200m and ends above 3,500m! 😮

✨ Take the cable car up, then hike down if you’re not used to high altitudes
✨ Bring oxygen cans, go slow, and hydrate
✨ Wear sunblock, a hat, and sunglasses — the sun is deceptively strong at high altitudes
✨ Bring your own snacks — food options at the entrance are pricey and limited

📍Day 2–3: Jiuzhaigou (九寨沟)

Nothing prepared me for how breathtaking Jiuzhaigou would be. Think multi-tiered waterfalls, crystal-clear lakes, and lush forests. You’ll ride a sightseeing bus that stops at the main attractions like Mirror Lake, Pearl Shoal Waterfall, and Five Flower Lake.

✨ Get to the park before 7:30am to beat the queue
✨ Bring your own self-heating meals or snacks — food inside is expensive
✨ Choose a multi-day pass if possible, so you can enjoy the views at a slower pace
✨ Try to visit after a rainfall for even clearer water and fewer crowds
