If you’re feeling a bit tired of popular cities like Wuhan and Xiangyang and want to find a lesser-known yet culturally rich travel destination, Suizhou, the "Hometown of the Chime Bells," is definitely a hidden gem. This 3-day, 2-night itinerary will take you on an in-depth journey through Suizhou’s history, culture, and natural beauty.✨
🌟 Highlights of the Trip
🏛️ Day 1: Travel Through a Thousand Years, Converse with History
The Suizhou Museum is the best place to start understanding this city. Its Zeng Hou Yi Chime Bells are the museum’s crown jewel. The highlight is the daily chime bell performance. When the ancient bells ring out tunes like "The East is Red" and "Chu Shang," the sound of metal and stone crossing millennia is truly breathtaking.
In the afternoon, head to the Yan Emperor’s Hometown Scenic Area, the birthplace of the legendary Yan Emperor, the ancestor of the Chinese people. Attractions like Shennong Cave, Shennong Hall, and the statue of Emperor Shennong create a solemn and reverent atmosphere. Walking here, you’ll feel a deep cultural connection and inner peace.
For dinner, visit Caodianzi Historical and Cultural Street. It’s full of life and rich history. We recommend trying the Hu Furui Mahua Shop, where you can taste the 200-year-old provincial intangible cultural heritage mahua (fried dough twist) and enjoy stamping souvenirs with Suizhou’s unique seals like "Deer and Crane" and "Chime Bells." Lao Yangjia Beef Soup is also worth a try, with its rich broth made from beef bones and tender, juicy beef.
🍁 Day 2: Immerse Yourself in Golden Autumn, Explore the Fairy Mountains
Reserve the whole day for Dahong Mountain. If you visit between late October and mid-November, don’t miss the stunning Ginkgo Avenue inside the park. The entire path is covered with golden ginkgo leaves, and sunlight filtering through creates perfect photo opportunities worthy of Instagram. We suggest wearing light-colored clothes for the best shots—it really makes the photos pop!
Besides the ginkgo trees, Dahong Mountain itself is a national forest park and a natural oxygen bar. You can climb Baozhu Peak and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges, experiencing the grandeur of the "Number One Peak in Northern Chu." The water in Bailong Pool is as green as jade, and the stalactites inside Liangwang Cave look dreamlike under the lights. 📸 Photo tips: Try a 45-degree upward angle for Ginkgo Avenue; use live mode for waterfalls; backlit shots at sunset are stunning.
🌸 Day 3: Pink Romance and Local Life
· On the last morning, visit the small park in Suichengshan Forest Park, where a sea of pink muhly grass blooms from September to November. Surrounded by this fluffy pink ocean, every shot is poetic and perfectly captures a forest vibe.
· In the afternoon, explore Suizhou’s old alleys to experience authentic local life.
· If you love photography, check out the unnamed alley behind Jiefang Road Market, where you’ll find blue brick walls and occasionally see girls in Hanfu taking photos—a charming mix of everyday life and artistic flair.
· Alternatively, visit Qinglong Alley, where the first half features traditional coffin and blacksmith shops, while the middle section has several artsy cafes. This blend of old and new is very interesting.
